Why Do I Need This? (GWTW170)

This week I was working on a project that was too complicated for what it needed to be. I kept asking myself, “Why? Why do I need this?” This wasn’t a response to the job, but to the common tendency in creative work to over complicate what is sold to clients. In this episode of Getting Work To Work, I’m going to share six times throughout the life of a project that you can ask that question to tighten up your work and get back to the fundamentals.

Six times in the life of a creative project you can ask, “Why do I need this?” so you can tighten up the work and get back to what you are really doing for the client:

  1. When you’re in the initial stages with the customer.
  2. In the research and strategy phases of your project.
  3. Before you share work with a client.
  4. During crunch time and you have to find a quick solution.
  5. Right before you wrap everything up.
  6. In the project post-mortem.
